About gworldtime

A free, accurate world clock for everyone who lives, works, or keeps in touch across time zones.

What is gworldtime?

gworldtime is a free web application that shows the current local time in 337 cities worldwide on an interactive 3D globe. Spin the earth, search for a city, and instantly see its local time, time zone, date, and how far ahead or behind it is compared to your own location. A live day/night terminator shows at a glance which part of the world is in daylight and which is in darkness right now.

The clock is synchronized against network time (NTP) rather than relying only on your device's system clock, so the time you see is accurate to within a fraction of a second — even if your computer's clock has drifted.

Why we built it

Remote work, distributed teams, international travel, and families spread across continents all share the same small daily problem: "What time is it over there right now?" Most tools answer that question with a plain table of numbers. We wanted something faster to read and more intuitive — a picture of the planet where you can literally see the time.

Seeing that Tokyo is bathed in morning sun while New York is still deep in night tells you more, more quickly, than "13 hours ahead" ever will. That intuition is what gworldtime is designed around.

Key features

How the time is calculated

Each city in gworldtime is mapped to its official IANA time zone identifier (for example Asia/Seoul or America/New_York). Local times are derived from a network-synchronized UTC reference using the time zone database built into your browser, which is maintained and updated by browser vendors whenever countries change their time zone or daylight saving rules. This is the same database used by operating systems and servers worldwide, so the results match official local time.

If you'd like to learn more about how time zones actually work, see our guides on how time zones work and the difference between UTC and GMT.
